MISSIONER NEWSLETTER – Fall 2026
Ana Morales, Bolivia

Dear friends in faith, I greet you with the peace and joy of our Lord Jesus Christ from the beating heart of the Bolivian Amazon. Through these lines I want to open a window for you into the day-to-day life of mission in this beautiful and challenging portion of God’s people, where the jungle, the rivers, and the indigenous communities become our daily altar.
In a region so geographically dispersed, where distances are measured in hours along dirt roads, the only force capable of sustaining us is the certainty that we share the same baptism and the same Redeemer.
As a lay missioner, my work takes on its true meaning in co-responsibility and communion. Working alongside Father Miguel Bassano and Father Alejandro, Maryknoll priests of this region, has been one of the greatest blessings of this mission. Together we form a living pastoral team. This beautiful way of working has allowed me to grow spiritually, to overcome fears, and to work more closely together doing mission in this part of TIPNIS, an indigenous territory in the Amazon rainforest.
The priests, with their generous dedication and administration of the sacraments, constantly return us to the source that is the Eucharist. For my part, I try to contribute daily closeness to the group of women I work with, promoting their integral development and providing a space for encounter and mutual support. I also serve as a catechist, guiding children in their preparation for First Communion. On September 13, seven girls and two boys received the sacrament of First Communion in the community of Villa Bolívar, after a year of catechesis. Watching their faith grow and seeing them receive Jesus in the Eucharist has been an enormous gift for my own heart.
Recently, together with Cristhian Ribera, one of the Bolivian aspirants, we organized a baking workshop for a group of women from the Santísima Trinidad community, teaching them to make alfajores and carrot cake. We hope these workshops will allow them to generate their own income and strengthen community organization.
Day by day the Amazonian reality confronts us with great challenges: geographic isolation, blockades, illness, and lack of food. Yet it is precisely in vulnerability that God’s grace manifests itself most clearly. In every face we encounter, at the shared table, in every conversation and every smile, we experience that fraternity dissolves every distance.
I am deeply grateful to each of you who, through prayer, material support, and affection, make yourselves participants in this mission. You too walk with us in the Bolivian jungle. We ask you to keep praying for the health of our priests, for the fruit of our missionary work, and for the conversion of our own hearts.
May the Virgin Mary, Mother of the Amazon, always guide us to live in deep communion, so that the world may believe that we are truly her disciples!
With love,
Ana Morales

MISSIONER NEWSLETTER – Otoño 2026
Ana Morales, Bolivia
Ana Morales
