This year we had extensive coverage of our Sending Ceremony and of the Class of 2021: Catholic News Service ran an in-depth story in December, titled “Maryknoll has ‘sending ceremony’ for largest lay missioner class since 2005.” Among others, it was picked up by the National Catholic Reporter, Crux, Union of Catholic Asian News and many diocesan publications, incl. the Brooklyn diocese’s Tablet, The Catholic Standard in Washington DC and Burlington’s Vermont Catholic.

We also helped several publications of new missioners’ home dioceses with their coverage of the Sending with a local angle: Catholic New York, Baltimore’s Catholic Review, Springfield, Massachusetts’ Catholic Mirror and Metuchen’s Catholic Spirit did longer stories. The local news platform Patch also ran a piece. Finally, there was an unusual pick-up of Robert Ellsberg’s remarks from the Sending by the Australian Diocese of Parramatta.

Maryknoll Lay Missioners
Compelled by faith to engage with people across cultures and ethnicities, Maryknoll lay missioners live, love and work with communities on the margins to promote active nonviolence and healing.
