Com Você, a popular television program in in the northeastern Brazilian city of João Pessoa, recently aired a report about Maryknoll lay missioner Kathy Bond’s teaching shantala baby massage. The daily program (whose title translates as “With You”) aired a six-minute segment on learning shantala online in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“They interviewed me for 40 minutes and then taped me giving a Shantala workshop online,” said Kathy, who has given nine of these online courses since March. “They also interviewed one of the mom participants of the workshop.”
Kathy added, “The piece also used the angle of natural techniques to calm your baby and help them sleep more (which are two of the benefits of Shantala), along with promoting bonding.”
Compelled by faith to engage with people across cultures and ethnicities, Maryknoll lay missioners live, love and work with communities on the margins to promote active nonviolence and healing.
