Maryknoll lay missioner Sr. Deirdre Griffin, SSJ, an immigration lawyer in El Paso, was joined in January by a delegation of Sisters of St. Joseph from across the country to volunteer at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In collaboration with The Encuentro Project and Annunciation House (where Maryknoll lay missioner Coralis Salvador also serves), Sr. Deirdre created an immersion experience that included opportunities to serve in local shelters, to learn about migration issues from local faith leaders and nonprofits, to immerse in the local history, food and culture, as well as reflecting on the congregation’s mission of unioning love and reconciliation in light of our current border realities.

The Congregation of St. Joseph highlighted Sr. Deirdre and the visit of the Sisters in its recent newsletter.
