The Global Mission Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago hosts a monthly program airing online and as a podcast. This show provides monthly discussions on the spirit of mission around the globe and in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
This month host Megan Mio sat down with returned Maryknoll lay missioners Celine and Don Woznica, as well as Jennifer Tomshack, communications manager, and Daniel Lizárraga, mission services manager at Maryknoll Lay Missioners, to discuss how Maryknoll lay missioners are changed for life by their experience.
The episode aired in three parts on Feb. 13. Watch the livestream videos on the Catholic Chicago YouTube channel:
- Part 1: What is a Maryknoll Lay Missioner?
- Part 2: Where Does Mission Lead You?
- Part 3: How to Support Maryknoll Lay Missioners?
After sharing a bit about themselves, the group shares about Maryknoll Lay Missioners. We hear about the core values of the organization, what sort of vocation lay missioners have, what formation they receive, and where these lay missioners serve.
While the first part of the podcast provides a foundational understanding of the missioners and organization, the second part dives into how the work of being a lay missioner changes one for life. Celine and Don share stories from their experience as lay missioners and how that has shaped the work they do today at the St. Edmund Center in Oak Park.
The conversation ends by providing information on how to learn more, join, and support Maryknoll Lay Missioners. Daniel shares that anyone can learn more through the webinars and vocational retreats that Maryknoll hosts both virtually and in person. Daniel also outlines what the process looks like for applying to and discerning a call to be a lay missionary with Maryknoll. Jennifer then shares what ways people can support the work of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners in this their 50th anniversary year!
