50th Anniversary Mission Immersion Encounter

July 11-22, 2026

São Paulo and João Pessoa, Brazil

Welcome to Brazil!

Bem-vindo, Bem-vinda!

Maryknoll Missioners in Brazil invite you to celebrate 50 years and to experience a journey of encounter and immersion into the lives, culture, faith, and history of Brazilian communities. This is also an invitation to witness mission work that responds to the struggles and realities in Brazil, to help create a more just and compassionate world, and to promote active nonviolence and healing.

Maryknoll Missioners have been actively working in Brazil since 1976 to support, empower, and advocate for communities in areas such as pastoral care, health promotion, mental health, justice and peace, human and land rights, migration, and education.

School stress workshop

We invite you to join us for a 12-day immersion journey where you will learn firsthand about Maryknoll Missioners presence in Brazil for the last 50 years in partnership with the local church and communities, and how together we are responding to current challenges in Brazil.

  • LEARN about the history, culture, and faith of the Brazilian people through visits to historic and cultural sites, local parishes and community organizations that reflect Brazil’s rich Indigenous, African, and European heritage.
  • MEET individuals and communities experiencing poverty and social vulnerability by engaging with grassroots initiatives, faith-based ministries, and local partners working alongside children, families, people with disabilities, and populations living in the margins of society.
  • PRAY for deeper awareness, solidarity, and lasting change.
  • REFLECT daily on shared experiences and on effective, compassionate responses to the social challenges encountered.
  • ACT as a catalyst for transformative change by standing in solidarity with Brazilian communities, listening to and amplifying local voices, and advocating for a more just and equitable society.

The itinerary promises a rich exchange of experiences, inviting participants to share their personal journeys while engaging in inspiring conversations with Maryknoll missioners. These enlightening interactions will provide deep insights into the meaningful work of the missioners and their influence on communities. Each day will include community prayer and reflection.
