Welcome to Cambodia!
Soum sva-kum mok Kampuchea!
សូមស្វាគមន៍មកកម្ពុជា!
Join us for a transformative mission immersion trip to Cambodia, Southeast Asia.
Once the heart of the Khmer Empire (9th–15th century), Cambodia has a population of approximately 18.7 million people and is home to the iconic Angkor temples, the Toul Sleng Museum, and the Killing Fields Memorial.
Today, Cambodia is a constitutional monarchy working toward healing and rebuilding its economy and culture.
Maryknoll Lay Missioners has been actively working in Cambodia since 1989 to support, empower, and advocate for communities in areas such as health promotion, disability, mental health, justice and peace, child protection, land rights, migration, and education.
We invite you to join us for a 10-day immersion journey where you will learn firsthand how Maryknoll Lay Missioners and the local communities are responding to current challenges in Cambodia.
- LEARN the history, culture, and faith of the Cambodian people through visits to the Choeung Ek Killing Fields Memorial, Angkor Wat Temple (a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Tonle Sap River Floating Village, and a traditional family-owned silk farm and weaving business.
- MEET with individuals experiencing extreme poverty and vulnerable communities that are caught in a cycle of hardship by visiting Maryknoll Lay Missioners’ initiatives and collaborations including the Deaf Development Program, LaValla School for Children with Disabilities, Home of Hope and Missionaries of Charity, as well as St. Michael Parish and its development of the new Stella Maris Apostolic of the Sea program.
- PRAY for awareness and change.
- REFLECT on daily experiences and on effective responses to the issues faced.
- ACT as a catalyst for transformative change by standing in solidarity, amplifying the voices of Cambodian communities, and advocating for a more just and equitable society.
The itinerary promises a rich exchange of experiences, inviting participants to share their personal journeys while engaging in inspiring conversations with Maryknoll lay missioners. These enlightening interactions will provide deep insights into the meaningful work of the missioners and their influence on communities. Additionally, we will visit a local community in Siem Reap. Each day will include community prayer and reflection.
Our guides will be Maryknoll lay missioner T.T. Hoang and our Asia area director Steve Veryser.
Prior to leaving, Friends Across Borders will provide an orientation that includes important cultural information and guidelines to follow during the trip.
