Maryknoll Lay Missioners (MKLM) with these words of greeting of the Cambodian people welcomes you to the ancient culture of Cambodia – its natural wonders, its people and history.

What We Will Do There

  1. Get to know the Maryknoll Lay Missioners through interactive experiences at our ministry sites. Current ministry programs focus on Land Rights/Migration, Physical Disability, HIV/AIDs, Gender and Sexuality, Community Development and Higher Education.
  2. Enjoy Liturgy, Wednesday evening meals and a complimentary sunset boat ride on the Mekong River with members of the Cambodia Mission Team.
  3. Get to know the Cambodian university students who will serve as cultural ambassadors throughout the trip experience.
  4. Learn about Buddhism and Meditation at Wat Langka.
  5. Enjoy events where traditional food, music and dances will be presented.
  6. Visit the Toul Sleng Genocidal Museum and the Choeung Eik Killing Field Memorial.
  7. Discover the temples at Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the great archeological sites of the world.
  8. Enjoy events where traditional food, music and dances will be presented.
  9. Participate in daily reflections on the work of the Maryknoll community and contemporary issues in Cambodia.
  10. Stay overnight in a traditional Khmer homestay in the gorgeous Cambodian countryside.
  11. Come away with a better understanding of the role of laity in mission and about key international development issues through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching and the Cambodian context.

Logistics and Costs.

Prior to leaving, Friends Across Borders will provide an orientation which will include education about important cultural norms to follow during the trip. Our in-country guide will be James Havey, Maryknoll Lay Missioner. You will also be accompanied on the entire trip by one or two experienced MKLM guides, TBD, from the United States.

TOTAL COST: $ 1,815 (ground cost, local airfare plus registration fee)

This covers the program registration fee, all lodging and meals in country, all transportation within the country (including national air travel), medical insurance with medical evacuation, English-Khmer speaking guides, cultural activities, and tourist fees. International airfare, taxes, and visa are not included. (Roundtrip airfare cost from NY City is around $ 900).

Friends Across Borders will provide information on obtaining a visa and immunizations, and will help you make the international flight arrangements.

For International travel arrangements please plan your itinerary from the international airport nearest you to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Participants are required to arrive in Phnom Penh on Friday August 9 at night and leave on Tuesday August 20, 2019 at night.
