Advent is a journey toward hope. On Dec. 13, 2020 Maryknoll Lay Missioners hosted a special Advent Celebration of Hope that featured inspiring musicians ValLimar Jansen and Greg Walton as well as noted artist Brother Mickey McGrath, OSFS, for an evening of storytelling, music and art. Maryknoll lay missioners and members of their communities in nine different countries of the global South offered reflection on the joy, hope and courage that have sustained them through the challenges of the past year. This virtual gathering of hope had the theme “The Light That Shines in the Darkness.” We invite you to watch it here:

In this year-end season of giving, Maryknoll Lay Missioners is grateful for its many partners and supporters around the world who make its mission possible. It is not too late to include us in your year-end giving here. We are blessed to have a matching gift challenge, which means that your donation before Dec. 31, 2020 will be doubled, i.e., matched dollar for dollar.

We are especially grateful to our guest artists who joined us in our gathering:

  • ValLimar Jansen is a well-known inspirational/catechetical singer, composer, recording artist, speaker and storyteller. She is also a college professor, a leader of worship and prayer, and a presenter at conferences across the US and abroad. ValLimar sings a broad range of styles from traditional to contemporary.
  • Brother Mickey O’Neill McGrath paints, writes and tells stories. A Religious Brother in the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, he explores the relationship between art and faith. Mickey has created art for leading Catholic publishers and many Catholic organizations. A presenter at retreats, schools, and conferences, his message is always about the “healing power of art and its ability to lead us to light and grace.”
  • Greg Walton is a dynamic Catholic musician and speaker, who “integrates the sacred and secular as a means to inspire love in the human family.” His music ministry has taken him all over the United States, Canada and Europe, and he has performed at hundreds of youth rallies and festivals.
