Healthcare and Health Promotion

A major area of concern for people living in developing countries is the lack of adequate medical care, especially for those living in extreme poverty, the young, the elderly and other vulnerable populations. Lay missioners are engaged in direct patient care, offering a range of services from preventative care to treatment of unique conditions. We also work in health promotion ministries and support local partners in building projects and facilities that will have a long‐lasting, sustainable impact in critically poor communities. Our efforts affect thousands of people each year.

Direct Care

Maryknoll lay missioners provide direct patient care as doctors, nurses, physical therapists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and mental health professionals. They also support and build programs and facilities that will serve patients into the future.

Health Promotion

Our missioners teach preventive and wellness practices and also help train local health practitioners who in turn provide care and education to rural patients who otherwise would not have access to medical care.
