Since starting her new ministry as an immigration lawyer at the U.S.-Mexico border in January 2019, Heidi Cerneka has had to respond and adjust to constantly changing U.S. government policies. Those changes have made the plight of asylum seekers at the border increasingly precarious and have hollowed out human rights for refugees fleeing life-threatening situations in their home countries. About what she sees happening at the border, Heidi says, “It’s immoral, it’s wrong, and we as Christians … have an obligation to do everything we can to change that, or we’re part of the problem.”
